Did you know you can explore the Maine seacoast by train? Enter the Amtrak Downeaster.

The train stops in six towns and cities in Southern Maine.

First stop in Maine is the Wells Transportation Center. Sadly, it's not walkable to the beach.

Next stop: Saco. You can walk into town at both Saco and Biddeford for great food and shopping.

Then it's on to Old Orchard Beach, with its amusement park and more.

Also, the OOB boardwalk and beach are just steps from the station.

The Portland train station is walkable to the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine.

Next up is Freeport and all of its great shopping.

You can walk to the L.L. Bean flagship store. Don't forget to take a picture in front of the giant boot.

Final stop: Brunswick, Maine, home of Bowdoin College.

Also, you can bring small dogs and cats in a carrier on board the Amtrak Downeaster
