Have you always wanted to participate in a Polar Beach plunge on New Year's Day? Here's one we experienced last year in Maine.

Last year we took our dogs to the Kennebunk Beach on January 1st because it was a gorgeous day.

There, we stumbled upon folks getting ready for a polar bear plunge.

They were taking pictures together before the icy dip into the ocean.

Soon enough it was time to line up to get ready for the Kennebunk Atlantic Dip.

And then everyone started running towards the ocean, dressed as if we were still in summer.

Some stayed in the water to frolic and enjoy the festivities. Most ran back to the beach for hot cocoa.

We expect there will be Polar Bear Plunges in at least three Southern Maine locations this year.
