Music at The Lounge: Veronica Lewis

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

Veronica Lewis emerges as a distinct voice in American rock earning acclaim as “one of the most promising torchbearers of American Rock ‘n Roll” by American Songwriter Magazine.

At 20 years old, this American indie singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is already carving a niche for herself as a deeply blue, raw-energy artist. A multi award-winning, #2 Billboard charting artist from the backwoods of New Hampshire, her music merges American roots rock and a 90’s indie/alt-rock vibe. Veronica reflects a powerfully vulnerable songwriter and musician in latest project, Too Late For Tears, released in Summer of 2024.

Veronica’s sonic odyssey is part of the ground swell of female artists who are redefining the meaning of singer-songwriter in modern American rock. Veronica cites her inspirations are Soccer Mommy, Julia Jacklin, Snail Mail, Sharon Van Etten, Men I Trust, Boygenius, Mitski, Julien Baker, Alanis Morrisette, Fiona Apple, and PJ Harvey.

Her indie/alternative debut, Too Late For Tears, released in Summer of 2024, delivers an uncompromising blend of retro and modern indie rock. Veronica presents a soundtrack to navigate the tumultuous journey of self-discovery. It’s like jumping in your best friend’s old beater for a road trip. She’ll whisper lyrics in your ear about your deepest fears and hopes,  she’ll put her foot down on the pedal, driving the guitar and keys fast over hills and you’ll feel your body defy gravity for a few seconds.

With luscious guitar riffs, dreamy keys, earworm melodies, and anthem-evoking choruses Too Late For Tears hits with a tumult of elation and melancholy. Together you scream as your hair whips around and you feel the exhilaration of your first joy ride. But unlike most first cars, which inevitably break down stranding you on the roadside. Too Late For Tears, the album, promises if you break down, Veronica will walk you home and help you heal your broken heart along the way.

Veronica tours with a full band, writes all her material, plays piano, guitar, bass, and synth. Sitting squarely in the “indie bedroom” tradition, Veronica also takes on the role of producer, retaining her autonomy, and cultivating authenticity in every aspect of her work.
