DIY Festival

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

Roll up your sleeves and bring your curiosity—DIY Festival is a full-day event packed with inspiration, creativity, and practical skills! From repairing the things you love to preserving the harvest, we’re bringing together makers, growers, and doers of all kinds to celebrate self-reliance, community, and craft. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or just starting out, there’s something here for everyone.

🔧🌱 Event Highlights

🔧 Repair Café (9:30 – 1:00 P.M. In front of the Library)
Have something broken? Don’t toss it—fix it! Bring your small appliances, lamps, clothing, bikes, and more. Our volunteer fixers will help you diagnose and repair your items. Reduce waste, save money, and learn as you go!

🎨 Art Van (Drop-In All Day)
Express yourself with the vibrant Art Van crew! Explore community mural painting, mixed media crafts, and hands-on art projects for all ages. No experience needed—just bring your creativity.

🛰️ April Jubett: Visualizing the Invisible – Art & Data from Space
(9:30 – 1:00, In the Children’s Room)
Join April Jubett, video and 3D artist at NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, for a fascinating look at how we turn invisible cosmic data into stunning images. Explore how binary code and scientific data become visual art—and how DIY creativity plays a role in making the unseen, seen. This session is perfect for space fans, digital artists, and curious minds of all kinds.

🐝 Beekeeping Demo ( Seminar 205)
Buzz into the fascinating world of bees! Local beekeepers will walk you through hive basics, pollination power, and how to get started with backyard beekeeping.

🍲 Budget-Friendly Recipe Corner
Whip up simple, nourishing meals without breaking the bank. Stop by for live demos, tastings, and free recipe cards featuring pantry staples and seasonal produce.

🥫 Master Preserving with UMaine Cooperative Extension
Learn from the best! Certified Master Food Preservers will share safe techniques for canning, freezing, fermenting, and dehydrating your harvest. Perfect for gardeners, homesteaders, and food lovers.
