[AT SPACE GALLERY] Patrice: The Movie (with Patrice Zoom Q&A)

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

102 minutes. Not Rated. Directed by Ted Passon. In English with English subtitles (open caption screening).

This screening will be held at SPACE Gallery! Co-presented with Portland Museum of Art, Best Buddies, Art Department, Disability Rights Maine, Vertical Harvest Maine, Double House Arts Collective.

A documentary rom-com about the next phase of marriage equality: disability.

Patrice has finally found the love of her life, Garry, who is also disabled. They want nothing more than to get married, but if they do – or even if they just move in together – the government benefits they need to survive would be cut. Despite the scrutiny they’re under, they decide to plan a commitment ceremony that could risk their entire future.

  • Live Screen Printing by Little Chair Printing (designs all created by artists with disabilities). Bring a shirt, tote bag, or bandana to be printed on. Hopefully we will have a few totes on hand if you don’t bring your own. This will be free, but with encouraged/suggested donation. Donations will be split amongst design artists.

  • Patrice will join for a Q&A after the show via Zoom!

  • Disability Community Resource Table

  • Disability Rights Maine will host a letter writing/advocacy table, encouraging representatives to support the Marriage Penalty Elimination Act

  • DJ Gabe will provide the tunes

  • Movie will be introduced by Kile and Stephanie Pelletier

For more information, visit the Portland Museum of Art website.
