Join cybersecurity professional Andy Chandler at the Main Library on Monday, February 10th at 2 pm for a presentation on how to avoid internet scams.
Can you trust anything you see on the Internet these days? What about those emails and phone calls you receive? And the text messages promising employment!
Truth to be told, you must greet all such messages with a skeptical eye (or “ear”, in the case of phone calls.) And if you think those “phishing” messages are getting harder and harder to detect, they are only getting tricker thanks to Artificial Intelligence.
In today’s session, Andy Chandler will share the tricks scammers use to get your attention, which is how the scams start. Andy will also offer tips on “fortifying” your online defenses so that your funds and your computers are less susceptible to “hacking”.
Do you have a hearing loss? Or have a family member with a hearing loss? Andy, who has a lifelong hearing loss, will share his thoughts on why a hearing loss may make us more vulnerable to scammers.
Finally, Andy will encourage you to tell your story. It’s only as a community with shared knowledge and commiseration that we can ward off of the scammers.
