Nightbitch

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

A NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM FESTIVAL FEATURE

A woman pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn. Thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, she slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog. Starring Amy Adams. Directed by Marielle Heller.

Golden Globes – Nominated: Best Female Actor
Spirit Awards – Nominated: Best Lead, Best Editing
Stiges-Catalonian International Film Festival – Nominated: Best Motion Picture
Mill Valley Film Festival – Won: Acting
Montclair Film Festival – Won: Director

Heller intends to comfort more than to freak us out. This isn’t a horror film so much as a healthy allegory for anyone who feels differently after having a child. -Variety

There’s something to be said for a movie that doesn’t wear out its welcome in an era (and festival) when it feels like so many movies don’t know when to end. -Rogerebert.com

A movie about insisting on your joy and fiercely holding tight to it, not in spite of your motherhood but alongside it. -Entertainment Weekly

Heller’s enjoyable film is not the cringe fest you walk in expecting it to be, even if the premise will be a hairy leap for some moviegoers. -New York Post

Nightbitch is primarily Adams’ off-leash opportunity and she runs away with it, likely all the way to the next Academy Awards with her almost guaranteed seventh Oscar nomination. -Toronto Star
