Every year on or about the last weekend in July, the Kennebunk Animal Welfare Society (AWS) throws a great party — Woofstock. This fundraiser for AWS provides a fun day for people and pooches alike. Admission is free. Food is available for purchase.
A great cause
The AWS is an animal welfare organization that provides shelter, veterinary and adoption services to the York County community. Each year they serve more than 10,000 area families and pets. All of the proceeds from Woofstock go to support veterinary services that are provided by AWS.
Fun for everyone
This dog-friendly fair caters to all things canine. This year, there were vendor booths featuring veterinarians, pet pampering products and even doggie spa services. we picked up some great swag including poop bags, beer koozies and kibble samples. Sadie and Oscar enjoyed treats and a water bowl at almost every stop. Sadie was even tempted to jump in the kiddie pool to cool down on a hot afternoon.
A few artists booths were available if you were looking for a Rembrandt of Rover. If your doggo was feeling energetic, you could take her to a mini agility course to burn off some steam. Some of the groomer booths offered their services right onsite. So, Fido could leave with a new haircut and a mani-pedi if that’s what you were looking for.
For the humans in the pack, a large food truck court and a beer garden (pooch positive, of course) hit the spot. Tiny people also enjoyed arts and crafts and other kid’s activities. The festive environment was topped off with live music.
When you go to Woofstock, be prepared to walk. Parking is free, but is limited. We had to park on Alfred Road, about a 15 minute walk from the fair. Luckily we had our own water bottle, so we could give the pups a drink when we got back to the car.
Things to Do in Southern Maine in the Coming Week

We also include inland communities in Cumberland and York Counties, and a tiny bit of Oxford County, too. This is all in the next week or so.
