Years ago, my mother and I would time our December birthday celebrations so we could experience the annual Tuba Christmas concert at Rockefeller Center in New York City. In fact, the very first Tuba Christmas concert happened in that very place — on New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink — on Sunday, December 22, 1974. I’m not sure how many times we had this experience, but it did usually coincide with that concert of all tubas.
Tuba Christmas in Maine
Now, Tuba Christmas is something that happens nationwide, including in Maine. There are three days and three locations this December when you can enjoy the unique sound of hundreds of tubas playing traditional Christmas music. You’ll never forget it.
In 2024, you can enjoy this unique concert experience in Bangor, Freeport and Kennebunkport. What’s amazing is that the musicians who participate meet and rehearse for the first time on the day of the concert. Normally, that’s first thing in the morning for an early afternoon concert. Here are the details for the concerts in the three Maine locations.
