Armchair Travel: Wildlife of Fire and Ice: Iceland

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

Join us for an hour-long Armchair Travel talk featuring the wonderful wildlife of Iceland, known as the Land of Fire & Ice. Enjoy fine photographs of unique and fascinating wildlife surrounded by amazing scenery. From rugged coastlines to jagged volcanic peaks, Iceland is like no other place on Earth, sitting astride the major fault line between North America and Europe. The land has been shaped by millions of years of seismic activity and the wildlife has evolved to live in this unusual habitat.  The talk chronicles a three-week trip to this stunning country that sits just below the Arctic Circle. Writer and photographer Ed Robinson of Orr’s Island, Maine is a widely traveled naturalist and will share his exciting photography and knowledge of Iceland’s beautiful creatures.

Ed grew up in the lovely Finger Lakes region of western New York and developed a deep love for the natural world. Since moving to Maine from England in 2007, he has been exploring and writing extensively about the creatures that live here.  He has written two books in a series titled Nature Notes from Maine, with a third book on the way. All profits from the books support public education and conservation of the environment around us.

In reviewing Ed’s first book, George Smith, formerly the Outdoor News Editor for the Bangor Daily News, noted, “This book is full of great stories about Maine’s wild animals. The stories are highly entertaining and brought back memories of my own wildlife encounters.  These are the wild creatures that make life in Maine very special.” A reviewer for the Natural Resources Council of Maine described Ed’s writing as “lucid and tranquil.”

This program is part of our Armchair Travel series, where neighbors take us on grand photography tours of their travels in distant lands. Free and open to the public; please call 207-865-3307 for questions or directions.
