As a fairly eco-conscious and green state, it might feel like every day is Earth Day in Maine.
But the legit national “holiday” happens on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
In fact, every April is considered to be Earth Month.
So, it’s no wonder that Earth conscious events happen throughout April in Maine, not just on Earth Day itself.
For example, you’ll find tons of free paper shredding events.
It’s too bad that Office Depot/Office Max don’t have any locations in the state as they have an awesome free paper shredding coupon you could have used.
Celebrating Earth Day in Southern Maine
Many Mainers plan to spend the day outdoors on Earth Day.
So, I’ve rounded up activities throughout Southern Maine that you can enjoy.
EcoMaine’s EcoFest
If you’ve ever been to EcoMaine’s open house, then you’ll definitely want to attend the EcoMaine EcoFest on April 22nd.
It’s happening in North Yarmouth.
Saco Parks and Recreation
On Friday, April 21st, the Saco Parks and Recreation Department has a number of acitvities going on to celebrate Earth Day.
Primarily, they are looking for people to help cleanup public parks and spaces in Saco to prepare them for warmer weather.
Everyone must pre-register for this event, and some of the spots are already full.
However, as of this writing, you could still volunteer to help clean up in the following places:
- Cascade Falls
- Eastern Trail
- Front Street Park and Riverwalk Trail
- Saco Community Center
- Scao Middle School
Visit this page on the Saco Parks website for more information and to register.
Basically, clean up starts at 9 a.m. and should wrap up by 1 p.m.
Anyone age 14 or younger come with an adult.
Sierra Club Maine Chapter
The Sierra Club Maine Chapter is organizing a range of different events for Earth Day.
This article on Sierra Club Maine Chapter Earth Day activities highlights two of them.
One is a community cleanup.
The other is an outdoor hike.
Coffee discount at Starbucks
Starting on April 22, Starbucks is making it more valuable for customers to bring a reusable cup to the café for their daily drink.
That is, any customer that brings in a reusable cup gets 10 cents off their order. That’s nothing new.
However, Starbucks Rewards members earn a discount and stars every time they bring a CLEAN reusable cup for their drink. So, if you’re a Starbucks Rewards member, you’ll get that aforementioned 10 cent discount, plus you’ll earn 25 bonus stars for your rewards account.
If you make certain energy-efficient changes to your home, you’ll qualify for tax credits and discounts.
