As a fairly eco-conscious and green state, it might feel like every day is Earth Day in Maine. But the legit national “holiday” happens on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. In fact, every April is considered to be Earth Month. So, it’s no wonder that Earth conscious events happen throughout April in Maine, not just on Earth Day itself.

Celebrating Earth Day in Southern Maine
Many Mainers plan to spend the day outdoors on Earth Day. So, I’ve rounded up activities throughout Southern Maine that you can enjoy.
Saco Parks and Recreation
On Friday, April 2th, the Saco Parks and Recreation Department has a number of activities going on to celebrate Earth Day. Primarily, they are looking for people to help cleanup public parks and spaces in Saco to prepare them for warmer weather. Everyone must pre-register for this event, and some of the spots are already full.
Visit this page on the Saco Parks website for more information and to register.
Westbrook Earth Day Fair
From 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, you can attend an Earth Day Fair for free at the Westbrook Common, 850 Main St., Westbrook. The Westbrook Department of Public Works is hosting. You’ll find entertainment and information about the environment and Earth.
Sierra Club Maine Chapter
The Sierra Club Maine Chapter is organizing a range of different events for Earth Day. The two closest to us in Southern Maine both occur on Saturday, April 26 and are happening in the Portland area. One is a community cleanup at the Back Cove Trail in Portland. The other is an Earth Day Resource Fair in South Portland. You can find details about both events on the Sierra Club Maine’s website.
Paper shredding event
On Saturday, May 3rd, you can shred unwanted paper and help support the Rotary Club of Kennebunkport. This is a paid opportunity. You’ll pay $5 to shred a shopping bag filled with paper or $10 for a banker’s box or regular trash bag filled with paper. More details on the Rotary Club of Kennebunkport Facebook page.
Coffee discount at Starbucks
Starting on April 22, Starbucks is making it more valuable for customers to bring a reusable cup to the café for their daily drink. That is, any customer that brings in a reusable cup gets 10 cents off their order. That’s nothing new.
However, Starbucks Rewards members earn a discount and stars every time they bring a CLEAN reusable cup for their drink. So, if you’re a Starbucks Rewards member, you’ll get that aforementioned 10 cent discount, plus you’ll earn 25 bonus stars for your rewards account.
