If you’re like me, then you’re always on the prowl for the best gas prices in Maine. Recently, I needed to fill up and I had an appointment in Scarborough. So, as I drove up Route 1, I took note of gas prices.
Once I was near my appointment and I wasn’t seeing any sharp decreases in prices, I pulled in and filled up. I paid $3.07 a gallon for regular gas. This was at Cumberland Farms.
Had there been more time before my appointment, it would have been worth my time to drive all the way to the Costco in Scarborough. There, a gallon of regular gas, for Costco members, was $2.99. I know because we did a Costco run two days later.
How to find the best gas prices in Maine
One of the things that drives me crazy is when the advertised gas price isn’t really the one you and I are likely to pay. For example, I’ll often see at Irving stations a price that is significantly lower than the other price on the lit sign. And if you look at the fine print, it says that you have to use the Irving Card to get that lower price. I’d really rather not get yet another credit or debit card.
As I mentioned earlier, getting gas at Costco was eight cents cheaper than Cumberland Farms. So, if you’re going to Costco anyway, it’s worth it to fill up and save a few cents.
However, rather than driving up and down Route 1 or all over York and Cumberland counties, I’ve just discovered a great way to find good gas prices and get cash back with each fill up. It’s the free Upside app.
Upside app
The free Upside app gets you cash back on daily essentials like gas, groceries and dining. It’s
designed to help you earn more just for doing you. Here in Southern Maine, Upside seems to work best for getting cash back at the pump.
I took this screenshot to show the cashback at different gas stations in Southern Maine as well as nearby New Hampshire. You can see that with just a few cents cash back, this makes gas prices super competitive and saves you from having to take the drive that I did to find the best gas price.
Notice that you can also get cash back at chain restaurants like McDonalds. Let me know if you sign up for the Upside app and if you like it. I’m excited to give it a whirl.
