Whenever we have out-of-town guests, the port’s Boathouse Restaurant is one of our go-to spots. It’s extensive menu and great location along the Kennebunk River provide ample stimulation for both the eyes and palette. In the summer months, the outside deck is a great spot to enjoy a meal or sip a drink. The outdoor tables are also pet friendly.
Fantastic Fish and Seafood
The menu is full of outstanding fare from the ocean and beyond. From raw bar selections to Asian inspired salmon or pork ramen, to great handhelds like blackened shrimp tacos. Since I am currently in search of southern Maine’s best fish and chips, on my most recent trip, I enjoyed the beer-battered fish and chips, served over fries with slaw. The three pieces of fish were elegant, which is a word I don’t typically associate with fried fish. The batter was crisp and flaky while the fish remained moist and tender.
Leah enjoyed the haddock casserole special, which she described as the epitome for fish comfort food. This was a night for enjoyment and we weren’t even thinking about our blog, so we failed to take photos of our food — major blog failure, sorry!
During our previous visit I ordered the tuna poke bowl. This was a perfect lunch portion hit every note. The tuna was fresh, and the veggies were refreshing. A handful of wontons added a delightful crunch. Leah’s quinoa bowl was hearty and filling.
