Recycle Old Jeans at Maine Target Stores

POSTED BY
Leah Ingram

Target is having its first denim recycling event, which it is calling the Denim Take Back Event. It runs this year August 4-10, 2024 — the height of back-to-school shopping season and during a few tax-free weekends aka sales tax holidays.

Target Denim Recycling Event Explained

What is the Target Denim Recycling Event? It is when consumers like you and me can bring our worn-out, outgrown or just-don’t-love-anymore jeans and denim products into Target stores to be recycled. In exchange for recycling your jeans, you’ll get 20% off a new denim apparel purchase with Target Circle.

How the Denim Take Back Event works

Here are the steps consumers can take to participate.

Bring up to five denim items, in any condition, to a Target store and drop them in the marked in-store boxes. I’m writing this article before the event has started so I don’t have pictures of what the boxes look like or if they’re in the same place in stores where the boxes were for the Target car seat recycling event.

Once you’ve dropped off your denim to recycle, you’ll receive a Target Circle promo code for 20% off all denim apparel. So you have to have the Target Circle app on your phone and you’ll likely have to scan a barcode — again like with the car seat recycling event — to get that coupon code automatically loaded into the app.

You can use this discount on Target-owned brands as well as national brands. This includes:

  • Universal Thread
  • Wild Fable
  • Goodfellow & Co
  • Cat & Jack — this is Target’s children’s brand that has a one-year warranty
  • Levi’s — Levi’s has a similar trade-in program through its retail store locations

Finally, you’ll need to redeem the Target Circle offer before the trade-in event is over on August 10. While I’m confident that you need to bring the jeans back in person, I’ll bet you can redeem that coupon on purchases you make in person or online.

Many other brands have recycling and buy back programs for jeans and the link.
