Wondering where to watch Oscar nominated movies at theaters in Maine? Unfortunately, unlike last year, there isn’t any Maine connection to the Academy Awards. Still, if you love movies, then you’ll want to pay attention.
Where you can watch Oscar nominated films in Maine theaters
Most movie chains do some sort of Academy Award Film Festival leading up to the Oscars. This includes AMC and Regal Cinemas. Unfortunately, there are neither in Southern Maine. In fact, the only Regal Cinemas location in the entire state is in Augusta.
So, if you want to see Oscar-nominated movies in a theatre and/or they’re not streaming, then you’ll have to rely on independent movie houses or local chains for your viewings.
I did some digging and came up with this list. It is the Maine movie theaters that are showing or will be showing Oscar-nominated films in the near future.
You’ll want to make sure you get to see them all before March 10. The 96th Oscars air on ABC March 10, 2024.

Apple Cinemas
Westbrook, Maine
I found three Oscar-nominated films currently playing at the Apple Cinemas theater in Westbrook. They are:
- The Holdovers
- Killers of the Flower Moon
- Poor Things
Apple Cinemas IMAX
Saco, Maine
The Apple Cinemas IMAX theater in Saco is showing two Oscar-nominated films:
- Oppenheimer
- Poor Things
Eveningstar Cinema
Brunswick, Maine
This cinema’s website says it will be showing 2024 Oscar-nominated shorts — documentary, animation and live action — as a Coming Soon feature. However, it hasn’t identified the dates yet.
Flagship Cinemas
Auburn, Falmouth and Wells, Maine
Currently, Flagship Cinemas are showing these three films up for Academy Awards:
- The Holdovers
- Barbie
- Poor Things
Magic Lantern Movie Theatre
Bridgton, Maine
The Magic Lantern is currently showing just one movie that is up for an Academy Award. It’s Poor Things.
Nickelodeon Cinemas 6
Portland, Maine
Currently, Nickelodeon Cinemas 6 in Portland, part of the Patriots Cinemas chain, is showing two movies with at least one Academy Award nomination. They are:

Smitty’s Cinema
Sanford, Topsham and Windham, Maine
The only Oscar-nominated film you can see at Smitty’s Cinema is Barbie.
