April showers may bring May flowers (and mud season), but they also bring many Maine farmers markets. That is, many farmers markets and farm stands in the state open in May.
Of course, there are year-round farmers markets, including those that run through the winter.

Still the majority are in the spring, summer and fall. So it’s not surprising that this article is dominated by Maine farmers markets that open in spring, usually starting the first weekend of May, and run through mid-to-late autumn.
According to the Maine Federation of Farmers Markets, there are 115 farmers markets statewide that are open for the summer season. This includes the ones starting in May.
As far as Southern Maine goes, I found farmers markets in more than a dozen locations. Many open in May. Some opened in April. Others start in June.
Finally, they’re listed here in alphabetical order by name of the farmers market. I’ve also included day or days of the week plus times.
