Where to Get Free and Cheap Coffee on National Coffee Day

National Coffee Day is one of my favorite food holidays of the year. I mean, no disrespect to National Doughnut Day or National Bagel Day. However, coffee is something I drink every day. Literally. So the idea of being able to get a cup for free or cheap is always a highlight for me.

When is National Coffee Day

National Coffee Day is always September 29th. Two days later, on October 1, it’s International Coffee Day, so a worldwide food holiday. However, here in the United States, you’ll find the most deals for free and cheap coffee on September 29.

When National Coffee Day first started being celebrated on a large scale, it used to be that nearly everyone could find a place where you could walk in and get a free cup. Nowadays, many national chains only provide free coffee offers to people who have their app on their phone and are a member of their rewards program. Well, that’s a good enough reason for me and why I have the Dunkin’ app as well as the McDonald’s app on my phone. If free food is available, I want to be eligible to get it.

Where to Get Free and Cheap Coffee on National Coffee Day

It’s always a challenge covering national food holidays, especially when looking for deals in Maine. Maine is one of those states that simply does not have all of the same chain restaurants and retailers as other states. Heck, we just got our first Costco in Maine in 2023.

But with regards to National Coffee Day, one of the regular participants is Krispy Kreme. The nearest Krispy Kreme to the Piscataqua River — Maine’s border with New Hampshire on the coast — is at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

So, I’ve done my best to find National Coffee Day deals that Mainers like you and me can take advantage of on September 29th. Read on to find out where you can go in Maine to get free and cheap coffee on National Coffee Day.

Aroma Joe’s

It appears that Aroma Joe’s has two offers for National Coffee Day. One is for the general public. The other is for its AJ’s Rewards members.

So, on September 29th, anyone can visit an Aroma Joe’s and get a free hot or iced 20-ounce coffee. Now for AJ’s Rewards members, the free coffee offer goes through October 5, 2024. That is, you’ll find a free coffee offer in the app, for a free hot or iced 24-ounce coffee, between September 29 and October 5.

Aroma Joe’s, which is headquartered in Scarborough, has more locations in Maine than I can count. Chances are, anywhere you drive in York or Cumberland Counties, you’ll pass an Aroma Joe’s location. So, rewards member or not, make sure you stop in on National Coffee Day for your free coffee.

Circle K Convenience Stores

If you fill up your gas tank at Irving Gas Stations, then chances are you’ve been to a Circle K convenience store. They are the ones most often associated with Irving in Maine. As long as you have the Circle K app on your phone, you qualify for one free medium hot or iced coffee, redeemable between September 26 and October 2. You’ll find the offer in the app.

Dunkin’

As I mentioned earlier, Dunkin’ is one of a few food rewards apps I have on my phone. It’s how I got a free doughnut on National Donut Day and how I intend to get free coffee on National Coffee Day. I’m told that freebie is a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase at Dunkin’ on National Coffee Day. The offer excludes Nitro and Cold Brew coffees. Plus, espresso shots, flavors and dairy alternatives may be an additional charge.

The offer is only available to Dunkin’ Rewards members. Dunkin’ has 164 shops in Maine, so way too many for me to list. Use this Dunkin’ locator to find one near you. And make sure you join the Rewards club and download the app on your phone so you can get this and other national food holiday offers from Dunkin’ throughout the year.

McDonald’s

When McDonald’s announced their fall deals earlier this month, they didn’t mention National Coffee Day. However, as someone who regularly uses the McDonald’s app, here’s what I can tell you: pretty much every time I order an iced coffee via the app, it costs $.99. Sure, that’s not free but ninety-nine cents for a large iced coffee is a bargain, and I don’t have to wait for National Coffee Day to roll around to get the deal. Also, as an app user, I get free fries every Friday.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons has announced that it will be celebrating National Coffee Day this year, with all-weekend free coffees. From September 27-29, Tims Rewards Members can enjoy a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase at participating US locations.

There are seven Tim Hortons locations in Maine, none in Southern Maine. But maybe you’ll be road tripping on National Coffee Day to one of these locations:

• Brewer
• Caribou
• Clinton
• Houlton
• Madawaska
• Presque Isle
