National Coffee Day is one of my favorite food holidays of the year. I mean, no disrespect to National Doughnut Day or National Bagel Day. However, coffee is something I drink every day. Literally. So the idea of being able to get a cup for free or cheap is always a highlight for me.
When is National Coffee Day
National Coffee Day is always September 29th. Two days later, on October 1, it’s International Coffee Day, so a worldwide food holiday. However, here in the United States, you’ll find the most deals for free and cheap coffee on or around September 29. Some coffee purveyors offer coffee deals all month long.
When National Coffee Day first started being celebrated on a large scale, it used to be that nearly everyone could find a place where you could walk in and get a free cup. Nowadays, many national chains only provide free coffee offers to people who have their app on their phone and are a member of their rewards program. Well, that’s a good enough reason for me and why I have the Dunkin’ app as well as the McDonald’s app as well as the Starbucks app on my phone. If free food is available, I want to be eligible to get it.
Where to Get Free and Cheap Coffee on National Coffee Day in Maine
It’s always a challenge covering national food holidays, especially when looking for deals in Maine. Maine is one of those states that simply does not have all of the same chain restaurants and retailers as other states. Heck, there was no Costco in Maine until 2023 and it is still only a single location in Scarborough.
I’ve done my best to find National Coffee Day deals that Mainers like you and me can take advantage of on September 29th. Read on to find out where you can go in Maine to get free and cheap coffee on National Coffee Day.
Aroma Joe’s
According tothe Aroma Joe’s Facebook page, only those who are part of the AJ’s Rewards program can get free coffee on September 29, 2025. Rewards members will get a FREE 16 oz hot or iced coffee at Aroma Joe’s. Additionally, anyone who downloads the AJ’s Rewards app between September 29 and October 6 will also get a FREE 24 oz hot or iced coffee and other exclusive offers. So, make sure you join their rewards program and then stop in on National Coffee Day for your free coffee.
Aroma Joe’s is headquartered in Scarborough and has more locations in Maine than any other state. Chances are, anywhere you drive in York or Cumberland Counties, you’ll pass an Aroma Joe’s location. Circle K Convenience Stores
If you fill up your gas tank at Irving Gas Stations, then chances are you’ve been to a Circle K convenience store. They are the ones most often associated with Irving in Maine. Here’s the Circle K offer for National Coffee Day 2025.
Circle K is treating customers to one FREE medium hot or iced coffee on Monday, Sept. 29 — no strings, just great coffee. The one-day-only offer is available via the Circle K app as either a coupon or Inner Circle reward at participating U.S. locations.
There are more than a dozen Circle K stores in Southern Maine, including in the following towns:

- Kennebunk
- Kittery
- Portland
- Saco

Circle K also participates in the Too Good to Go App.
Dunkin’
Here is Dunkin’ Donuts announcement for National Coffee Day 2025: “National Coffee Day is almost here, and Dunkin’ is making it sweeter with free coffee for all Dunkin’ Rewards members. On Monday, September 29, members can enjoy a free medium hot or iced coffee, with purchase through the Dunkin’ app.”
Again, this offer is only available to Dunkin’ Rewards members. Dunkin’ has 164 shops in Maine, so way too many for me to list. Use this Dunkin’ locator to find one near you. And make sure you join the Rewards club and download the app on your phone so you can get this and other national food holiday offers from Dunkin’ throughout the year.
McDonald’s
McDonald’s hasn’t announced anything about National Coffee Day…yet However, as someone who regularly uses the McDonald’s app, here’s what I can tell you: pretty much every time I order an iced coffee via the app, it costs $.99. Sure, that’s not free but ninety-nine cents for a large iced coffee is a bargain, and I don’t have to wait for National Coffee Day to roll around to get the deal.
Starbucks and GrubHub
Starting on National Coffee Day (September 29), Grubhub is offering $7 off $20 Starbucks orders for Grubhub+ members, giving coffee lovers a reason to celebrate Monday morning! FYI, if you have Amazon Prime, you get Grubhub+ for free.
Tim Hortons
Last year, Tim Hortons had a free coffee deal for National Coffee Day. This year, things are a little different. First, the immediate offer on National Coffee Day is the return of four vintage hot beverage cup designs that capture some of the brand’s iconic looks through the decades. So if you care about getting a vintage-looking cup at full price, have at it.
As far as free coffee goes, you’ll have to earn it over four different visits to Tim Horton’s. Here’s how a Tim Horton’s press release explains the offer:
“Starting Sept. 29 through Oct. 4, Tims Rewards members will receive an exclusive National Coffee Day offer in their Tims app. After four separate brewed coffee purchases and scanning for Tims Rewards each time, they will be awarded a FREE coffee in the form of 400 Tims Rewards points to use on a future Tims Run.”
There are six Tim Hortons locations in Maine, none in Southern Maine. But maybe you’ll be road tripping on National Coffee Day to one of these locations:
