January 19 is National Popcorn Day. Like with many free food days, you can expect to get free or cheap popcorn on this food holiday. Most theaters haven’t posted their deals yet this year, so here is a round up of last year’s deals to give you an idea of what to look for. We will update this post as 2024 deals get advertised. In the meantime, call your local theater to find out what their promotion is. If you find a good one, please post it in the comments.
In the past all of the Popcorn Day deals were at movie theaters. And in 2024 we expect it to be no different.
Where you can find National Popcorn Day deals
Maine doesn’t have as many chain movie theaters as nearby New Hampshire and Massachusetts. For example, AMC, Showcase Cinemas and Cinemark theaters all have popcorn offers on January 19. However, there aren’t any locations in Maine. AMC also offers a reusable popcorn bucket with discounted refills for a year. If you live near one of their New Hampshire locations and are are a frequent movie goer, it is worth a look.
Within Maine, I did find deals for you to enjoy some free or heavily discounted popcorn while enjoying a movie. In fact, I found seven theater locations with some sort of National Popcorn Day deals.
Me? I’d take advantage of these popcorn discounts and go see some of the recent Golden Globe winners.

Regal Brunswick
Last year, Regal Theaters offered 50% off of popcorn on January 19. Nothing has been posted yet for this year. Still, Like AMC, they offer a reusable popcorn container that offers substantial discounts fo refills. If you go often, look into this. There’s a regal theater in Augusta.
Falmouth, Maine
Flagship Cinemas
In the past Flagship Cinemas celebrated National Popcorn Day with free refills of popcorn pails. No word yet if they’ll be repeating that freebie this year.
There are also Flagship Cinemas movie theater locations in Auburn and Wells.
Portland, Maine
Nickelodeon Cinemas 6
In 2023, everyone who went to the movies at the Nickelodeon Cinemas 6 on January 19 got a free popcorn with admission.
Sanford, Maine
Smitty’s Cinema
At Smitty’s last year, you got a large popcorn for the price of a small popcorn on January 19. Smitty’s Cinema has offered this “free upgrade” on popcorn nearly every year for this food holiday.

Final thoughts on National Popcorn Day deals
Apple Cinemas locations in Westbrook and Saco have not listed any specials in the past, but give them a call and ask if they are running one. Who knows, maybe you’ll inspire the manager to create a deal. In general, we’ve noticed that this year theaters seem to be a little late in promoting their specials. So it’s best to keep an eye on their websites and facebook pages.
