January 19, 2023 is National Popcorn Day. Like with many free food days, you can expect to get free or cheap popcorn on this food holiday.
However, there is a twist: all of the Popcorn Day deals are usually at movie theaters. And in 2023 that’s no different.
Where you can find National Popcorn Day deals
Maine doesn’t have as many chain movie theaters as nearby New Hampshire and Massachusetts. For example, AMC, Showcase Cinemas and Cinemark theaters all have popcorn offers on January 19. However, there aren’t any of their locations in Maine.
But don’t worry: I did find deals for you to enjoy some free or heavily discounted popcorn while enjoying a movie. In fact, I found seven theater locations with some sort of National Popcorn Day deals.
Me? I’d take advantage of these popcorn discounts and go see “A Man Called Otto,” based on the book “A Man Called Ove.” It’s one of my favorites.
Here is an alphabetical list, by location, of Southern Maine movie theaters participating in National Popcorn Day this year.
Many of these theaters here are showing Oscar nominated films.
Bridgton, Maine
Magic Lantern Movie Theatre
Not a popcorn holiday, per se, but still a deal on popcorn. At the Magic Lantern Movie Theatre, you can enjoy a bag of popcorn for just $2 in January, February and March.
Brunswick, Maine
Regal Brunswick
According to the Regal Cinemas Facebook Page, moviegoers will enjoy 50% off popcorn on January 19.
Falmouth, Maine
Flagship Cinemas
Last year Flagship Cinemas celebrated National Popcorn Day with free refills of popcorn pails. No word yet if they’ll be repeating that freebie this year.
There are also Flagship Cinemas movie theater locations in Auburn and Wells.
Portland, Maine
Nickelodeon Cinemas 6
Everyone who goes to the movies at the Nickelodeon Cinemas 6 on January 19 get a free popcorn with admission.
Sanford, Maine
Smitty’s Cinema
According to the Smitty’s Cinema Facebook page, you can get a large popcorn for the price of a small popcorn on January 19. Smitty’s Cinema has offered this “free upgrade” on popcorn nearly every year for this food holiday.
Topsham, Maine

Final thoughts on National Popcorn Day deals
I’m still checking to see if the Apple Cinemas locations in Westbrook and Saco will be offering any free or discounted popcorn on January 19. I’ll keep you posted.
